As with all things, quality is more important than quantity.

A micro-influencer has a social media presence larger than a normal person’s but smaller than a celebrity’s, landing between 1,000 and 100,000 followers. Often, micro influencers are attractive to prospective companies because they have higher engagement rates.

Engagement rate is used to measure the level of interaction by followers from content created by a user. The higher the engagement rate, then the more attractive you are to companies as a possible influencer as higher engagement generally leads to sales (conversion).

The average engagement rate is typically between 1-2%.  Meanwhile, micro influencers are generally expected to have an engagement rate of at least 5%
